The provincial government is looking for a consultant to review the role of nurse practitioners.
They fit into the health care system somewhere between a registered nurse and a GP – sometimes doing things which, in the past, would have been the domain of a doctor.
Health Minister Joedy Wall sees the review as an opportunity to better understand their scope of work and address their needs.
Some people see the nurse practitioner as the only viable option to a doctor, not just in remote areas but urban regions where wait times at urgent and emergent facilities can be long.
The deadline for proposals is Tuesday, September 29.
