Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron are off to the United Nations this week to further explore areas in which to collaborate following a meeting yesterday just a few km off the south coast of Newfoundland.
Carney’s visit to Saint Pierre et Miquelon was the first of any Canadian prime minister, and each of the leaders spoke warmly of the cultural and historic ties between the two countries.
Carney and Macron have directed their space agencies, defence industries and ministries to develop and share common space infrastructure, including launch systems and ground reception and control infrastructure.

Ottawa and the province have already pledged funding to NordSpace to help develop a space port in nearby St. Lawrence.
A new strategic partnership was also launched between the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and French chamber, Chambre de commerce et d’industrie en France, to build greater business ties and trade between the two countries.
