A St. John’s mother has been reunited with her young daughter, who had been taken to Egypt by her father.
An arrest warrant for the child’s father Ahmed Mohamed Shafik Abelfat Elgammal was issued by the RNC one year ago after he picked up the 5-year-old, and took her back to his native Egypt.

The little girl’s mother, Bouchra Marbouhi, travelled to Egypt to try to track her daughter down and bring her back to St. John’s with the help of some local supporters.
According to a release issued to VOCM News, the family acknowledges the help of Egypt’s Ministry of Justice, and is asking for continued cooperation as remaining legal and travel matters are resolved.
The executive director of Violence Prevention Avalon East, Olivia Lynch, says they are continuing to support Bouchra, and are keeping the community informed throughout the process.
The child’s mother is also offering her thanks to the many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who have helped her through the ordeal.
