A Newfoundland MP used the House of Commons as his platform to chastise the Prime Minister for what he sees as exorbitant and lavish spending during trips to Qatar, China and Switzerland.
Documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation show the food bill alone for PM Mark Carney and his hungry entourage aboard CANFORCE ONE was $175,000 in in-flight catering. The Royal Canadian Air Force spent over $223,000 just on fuel during the nine-day trip.
The taxpayers federation says the dining included premium cut of beef, beef tenderloin, veal, salmon, bass, and all kinds of dessert. It says the money spent on in-flight meals came to more than the average family would spend on groceries in nine years.
Jonathan Rowe, the Conservative MP for The Eastern Peninsulas, told the House that he can’t even pronounce some of the fancy foods ordered up.
Government House Leader Steve MacKinnon said it’s time that Rowe and his colleagues join the Liberals in building up Canada.
“He should be talking about Churchill Falls, Bay du Nord, the Atlantic Fisheries Fund…” said Minister MacKinnon.
