It appears the Labrador community of Rigolet could lose its only gas station if a new operator can’t be found before the end of the month.
NGC Solutions Inc, also known as NSI, a subsidiary of the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies, announced yesterday that it will cease operation of the town’s only gas station as of September 30.
NSI signed an agreement with the Rigolet Inuit Community Government in June of 2019 to operate the gas station until the end of November 2019. When a new operator could not be found, NSI agreed to extend operation until September 30.
In a letter issued yesterday, NGC Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Leo says they have taken on significant financial and environmental liabilities in operating the station, and the measure was always intended to be a temporary solution.
She says they understand the importance of the gas station to the community and all parties involved have been informed that the current arrangement cannot continue.
