A fire at the Burin Peninsula landfill near Marystown is under control. The blaze broke out last night at about 10:00 with firefighters from both Marystown and Burin rotating shifts throughout the night. Over 30 people fought the blaze.
The landfill is outside of town off the Burin Peninsula Highway. Captain Justin Bolt of the Marystown Fire Department says they had to truck in water so a local company, the Brenton Group, supplied them with a water truck.
He says the winds were just beginning to pick up at the time.
The landfill is closed for the entire day to all customers—commercial and residential.
