Union officials met with Health Minister John Haggie last week to impress on him staffing issues in the province’s long-term care facilities.
NAPE raised serious issues earlier this month about staffing shortages in long-term care that the union says is affecting staff and patient well-being.
Issues facing workers include staff shortages, the inability to access leave, forced overtime, and working short on a shift.
Also discussed were changes to help with recruitment and retention of licensed practical nurses and personal care attendants in long-term care, including new training sites and seats for both programs at the College of the North Atlantic.
