RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have a suspected arsonist in custody after two cabins and a shed were burned down. Route 500 in the area of Edwards Brook, about 75 km outside Happy Valley-Goose Bay, was blocked off yesterday morning around 9:00 after witnesses saw a man running in the woods, then saw him sitting on the side of the road with what looked to be a rifle.
Twenty-two-year-old Michael Katshinak of Sheshatshiu was taken into custody without incident and will remain in custody at least until his next court appearance on October 5.
Police say he had two Airsoft rifles.
A truck, which appeared to be stuck in the mud near one of the burning cabins, was also on fire. It was reported stolen yesterday morning from a commercial property in Sheshatshiu.
