The province is forging ahead with plans for $25-a-day childcare to be implemented in 2021.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says money has been set aside for the period from January 1 to March 30, with more money coming for full implementation.
She says $3-million has been budgeted in this fiscal year, and another $12-million going forward.
The minister responsible for early childhood education, Tom Osborne, says they’re hoping to roll things out by January 1. He says 70 per cent of regulated child care operators in the province are under the operating grant program.
He says it should be an “easy transition” to get those daycares under the $25-a-day model. The remaining 30 per cent will be invited to join the operating grant program and receive the subsidy.
