When a St. John’s man’s security system tipped him off to some suspicious activity overnight—little did he know it captured dramatic footage of what appears to be a meteor falling to Earth.

Frank Newell says when he woke this morning there was an alarm on his security system. He went over the video and at 1:19 in the morning, a bright ball of light suddenly appears, lighting up the surrounding clouds before disappearing.

Newell says at first, he wasn’t sure what he had just seen. He jokes that initially, he thought it could be aliens, but says the friends he showed it to told him it looked like a meteor.

Newell says were it not for the video he’d be none-the-wiser as he was sleeping at the time.
