Unifor has resumed a secondary picket line at the same location where they were shut down just over a week ago.
On October 27, police descended on the union’s picket line at Weston’s Bakery in Mount Pearl.
The picket line was eventually broken up, and last week Unifor announced they would be taking legal action against the police force—claiming that their charter rights were violated that night.
The union has now resumed their picket line at the site on the same day they plan to officially file their claim in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Unifor 597 President Carolyn Wrice says they have returned to the site where their picket line was “unjustly” shut down, maintaining that what they are doing is legal.
