RCMP are investigating the cause of a fire that dealt a major blow to the Town of LaScie.
The weekend blaze caused extensive damage to the town’s municipal building which housed the town hall, library, kids’ clubhouse, ambulance service, and fire hall.
Mayor Kimberly Morey says the fire started at the back of the building, allowing the fire department to remove the bulk of their emergency equipment to fight the fire.
Mayor Morey says the council chamber and town office remains intact.
The ambulance service and fire department are both up and running from different locations.
For the time being, council and town operations are moving to the local arena which has a multi-purpose room and some offices.
Mayor Morey says a number of items were removed from the town hall and stored in her brother-in-law’s shed until it could be moved to their new, temporary location.
Earlier Story
The Town of La Scie is scrambling to find alternate space for several key services after fire gutted the town hall over the weekend.
The fire hall itself was among the services displaced by the blaze which broke out around 8:30 Saturday morning but the trucks and equipment were removed before they were damaged.
Mayor Kimberley Morey says the challenge now is finding space for the town’s emergency vehicles, and continuing with programs that were housed in the building.
She says the ambulance service as well as the library, council offices and kids’ clubhouse were all hit hard by the fire.
Meanwhile, Morey says temporary council chambers will be set up in the multi-purpose room at the local arena.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined but no one was injured. Insurance adjusters are expected to be on the scene for most of today.
