The capital city’s bid for the 2025 Summer Games is back on the council agenda this week.
St. John’s officially launched their bid for the games in February and were given a deadline of December 1 to submit a comprehensive bid proposal.
At today’s council meeting, a resolution will be tabled outlining the city’s commitment to hosting the games.
This includes agreeing to all hosting standards for the games, as well as an increase in the 2022-2024 capital budgets to include $3-million for the Host society when it is established. That’s in addition to a combined $6-million from the federal and provincial governments.
St. John’s last hosted the summer games in 1977. More recently, Corner Brook hosted the Canada Winter Games in 1999.
