Elective surgeries and procedures were cancelled in the spring when COVID hit, but a similar shutdown in the health care system is not anticipated at this time even as case numbers start to rise again.
That’s according to Health Minister John Haggie who told reporters yesterday that while they’re still working through the spring backlog, they’re nearly back to full capacity.
He says each of the regional health authorities has the ability to reduce or eliminate procedures based on varying degrees of urgency.
Cancer and emergency surgeries are never part of that equation according to Haggie.
