The province’s fisheries minister is offering condolences to the friends, family and crewmates of a man who died after a fishing vessel ran aground on the west coast early Tuesday.
The Eastern Pride, operated out of Curling by the Barry Group, went aground at Eagle Island near Cox’s Cove around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
RCMP would not elaborate on the cause of death. Seven other crew members were not injured but were transferred to another boat and brought to shore.
Fisheries Minister Elvis Loveless said such tragic events are a harsh reminder of the risky nature of the fishing industry.
“To his family and friends, and fellow crewmembers who have lost a trusted and treasured friend, please know we are very thankful you are safe, and we are truly sorry for your loss,” said Loveless.
Transport Canada, Occupational Health and Safety and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are involved in the investigation.
