Memorial University is continuing to move forward with plans to develop a law school.
President Vianne Timmons acknowledges concerns and questions raised, but she supports the idea.
She agrees that they cannot rely on government subsidies, but a law school addresses a number of needs, not the least of which is the attraction of up to 400 people to the province. She sees it as an economic driver, and as a catalyst to bring about needed changes in indigenous law and marine law.
Lawyer Cabot Martin applauds the concept. He studied law at Queen’s University and at the University of Miami where he studied marine law. He says a law school is about much more than just learning the law.
