The Chromebooks have arrived and officials with the English School District are in the process of starting to distribute the learning devices to students in the grade 7 to 12 system.
There are no plans to switch to online learning at this time, but board officials say they’re prepared if worse comes to worst.
The first 1,500 Chromebooks to arrive in the province are on the ground in Labrador and will be delivered to students once they are configured starting next week.
The provincial government funded the purchase of more than 5,000 laptops for teachers and in excess of 30,000 Chromebooks for grade 7 to 12 students.
Meanwhile, CEO Tony Stack says the district is being proactive in preparing for any possible COVID-related circumstances over the holiday break.
He says they’ve become acutely aware in the last few weeks of just how quickly the virus can affect a school community and as a result, they are ready to pivot to virtual learning if, or when, Public Health officials decide normal school operations need to change.
