It’s accepted that this year will be a very different kind of Christmas around the world.
The capital city is joining with cities and towns across the globe in a special way to “ring” in the Christmas season.
Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle 2020 has been circulating on social media. Thousands of people will stand on their doorsteps at 6:00 p.m. and ring bells for two minutes tonight, as part of a campaign to combat loneliness.
The idea came from Mary Beggs-Reid, from the UK, to “end 2020 with a bit of magic, hope and togetherness” in her hometown. It has now grown with more than 445,000 people across the world wanting to take part in the event on Facebook.
Councillor Jaimie Korab says the city is asking residents to join in and spread holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. If you don’t have a bell, he suggests using a pot or something to bang on.
