A final decision is coming tomorrow regarding whether or not the City of St. John’s will be making changes to the vote-by-mail process in future elections.
The proposed changes would require voters to pre-register for vote-by-mail kits, instead of them automatically being sent out.
As well, the city is looking to increase the number of polling stations, and commit to the continued lobbying of government for progressive (online) voting methods.
Not all of council is in favour, however.
The proposed switch back to conventional in-person voting at a meeting two weeks ago passed by a reluctant 6-3 with some who were in favour saying their mind is still open.
The meeting is Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
