A Carbonear man is facing multiple firearms charges after an alarming incident in the town on Wednesday.
Harbour Grace RCMP say they were called shortly after midnight on Wednesday to reports that two people were allegedly confronted and threatened by an unknown man holding a firearm on a remote trail in Carbonear.
They say the two people were trying to get their ATV unstuck from the snow at the time. They were able to free the machine, and the suspect ran off. The man was suspected of being in a cabin nearby.
Following a search of the area, 54-year-old Edward Furey was arrested. Following a search of the man’s cabin, a number of firearms were located and seized.
Furey is now charged with using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He appeared in court yesterday and was released on a number of conditions. His next court appearance is at the end of March.
