Two stations of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department are back up and running today following the confirmation of a positive COVID case yesterday morning.
A worker who recently spent time at both the Brookfield and Paradise detachments tested positive. That resulted in workers at both sites being sent home until new staff could be brought in.
Fire Chief Sherry Colford says 20 people are in isolation as a result. That’s in addition to another 20 who are isolating for other reasons.
The Paradise station was fully operational by yesterday afternoon, while the Brookfield station was up-and-running by suppertime.
Colford says they have protocols in place for any type of emergency response while new staff are being called in, noting that they were able to restaff both stations quickly because all firefighters wear full PPE out to every call.
If they perceive there is a risk they will contact public health.
