Memorial University President Vianne Timmons is calling out a recent incident of racism targeting MUN’s Black Student Association, and she’s asking others to do the same.
Timmons told the university community that a “hateful racist message” was sent to the Black Student Association today.
She says she’s received hateful messaging herself since taking over the Presidency of MUN.
“We say no” to racism at Memorial University says Timmons, “and we need to stand up and name it, and shame it.”
“We will not accept racism of any sort on our campus. We condemn all types of prejudice and bigotry in any form it takes.”

Timmons referenced the “appalling” tragedy that occurred in Atlanta earlier this week in which eight people were killed, including six women of Asian descent.
She vows that Memorial University and the people who make up the university community are committed to providing a safe, respectful environment for all.
An incident of racism was brought to my attention ?@MemorialU? This will not be tolerated. We say NO to hate. Tomorrow is the first Day of Spring, Iranians celebrate this day as the beginning of their New Year. We celebrate diversity, not hate. #talesfromtheroadMUN pic.twitter.com/F1c6v9qasp
