A Corner Brook-based business is proposing to develop a U-pick apple orchard at the site of the former Humber Valley Resort.
The locally-grown apples will be available to customers who pay to pick them themselves.
Surplus apples will also be sold to local farmers’ markets.
The proponent, Briarside Affair Limited, says the 4.22-hectare orchard will provide a unique opportunity to expand the local agriculture sector.
It’s hoped, that if approved, tree planting will be able to begin in the spring of 2022 once the land is cleared of existing trees and vegetation.
The deadline for public comments through the Environmental Assessment process is April 29th with the minister’s decision due by May 8th.
