Public Health officials in this province are awaiting the results of a study in the UK on the Astra Zeneca vaccine and second doses before making a final decision on how to proceed with patients who have their first dose of the AZ vaccine.
The province announced earlier this month that it was no longer administering first doses of the vaccine.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald provided an update today. She says the results of the study—due in June—will help them decide the next steps for those with one dose of the vaccine.
Officials are trying to determine whether people with one dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine will be protected with a second dose of one of the mRNA vaccines—like Pfizer or Moderna.
