Health Minister John Haggie says there was no known “clinically significant” injury as the result of the use of some 1300 counterfeit N95 masks that ended up being used in the health care system last year.
The minister was responding to questions from Opposition Health Critic Paul Dinn in the House of Assembly yesterday.
The provincial government has returned the batch and is seeking to get its money back Haggie told the Legislature.
The Opposition learned through a briefing note acquired through Access to Information about the purchase of some 100,000 masks for supply to the provincial government that turned out to be counterfeit. The documents indicate that the masks were bigger and of lower quality material than legitimate masks.
The masks weren’t caught during inspection says Haggie because they were part of a batch of legitimate masks and the sampling didn’t capture the counterfeits.
