The Opposition Tories called out Premier Andrew Furey yesterday for what they call “disparaging and offensive” remarks made in the House of Assembly.
Furey was answering a question from Interim Opposition Leader David Brazil regarding the Terra Nova Project, and why government wouldn’t release more information about it.
“I’m not sure the member opposite understands an NDA and perhaps can’t even spell NDA,” Furey said. “These are commercial interests and we need to protect the commercial interests of the province.”
NDAs, or non-disclosure legal agreements, are in place to protect commercially sensitive information from being distributed publicly.
Brazil, meanwhile, resisted the urge to fire back.
“I won’t lower myself to get at that level,” Brazil said. “I thought we had moved beyond that in the House of Assembly.”
Later, Furey told reporters his emotions got the best of him during debate on a serious issue.
He also said there was no need for an apology since his comments were “well within” parliamentary behavior, but Furey said he would apologize if Brazil was offended by the comment.
