A CBS man is crediting the composure and determination of his 10-year-old grandson for saving his life.
David Tremblett was out kayaking with his grandson Christian Tapper of Torbay when they ran into trouble.
Tremblett says while he always wears a life jacket, for some reason he chose not to when he and Christian headed out on Three Island Pond last Saturday, June 26. Christian was paddling in his own kayak behind his pop when he got tired, so David tied his grandson’s kayak onto his own and towed it across the pond. When they got to the top of the pond, David ran into trouble.
The wind blew his hat off and when he reached back with his paddle to retrieve it, that’s when he “went bottom-up.” He found himself on the bottom of the pond. Unable to swim, he jumped to the surface and grabbed his kayak, but, being half-submerged, it wouldn’t keep him up. Instead, he was able to grab the nose of his grandson’s kayak.
That’s when little Christian jumped into action.
“I’ll get you in Pop,” he told his grandfather — and so he did. “I was surprised he could do it,” Tremblett said, his voice breaking with emotion, “…a little boy ten years old.”
Tremblett says there are a lot of people who look up to their parents or grandparents, but he looks up to his grandson and wanted his actions and cool head to be recognized.
