A well-known local musician has been named as the recipient of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award recognizes what’s being called the substantial contribution to the preservation and promotion of the traditional folk arts of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Jim Payne is one of the province’s most prolific songwriters, who is also known as a singer, storyteller, writer, actor, step dancer, and traditional dance instructor.
Payne is humbled by the honour. He says it’s given him the opportunity to look back and reflect on the musicians who helped him shape his career, and those who supported him.
The award will be presented to Payne during the closing concert of this year’s festival on August 1. Tickets and details of this year’s performances can be found at www.nlfolk.com
