The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has announced the seizure of a significant amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia that they say cripples an organized crime operation in the province.
The bust, which included the arrest of a man and a woman, was part of an 11-month investigation termed Operation Rattle.
RNC Media Relations Officer Const. James Cadigan says five properties and vehicles on the Avalon Peninsula were searched on Sept. 3.
He says 10.75 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of about $2 million was seized, plus $450,000 in cash, two vehicles, two handguns, a rifle, a shotgun, two money counters, and a vacuum sealer.
Investigators believe the cocaine would have been subject to additional cutting agents once at street level.
Cadigan says the operation has dismantled an organized crime group in the community, which he added is national in scale.
A 37-year-old man from St. John’s and a 25-year old woman from Ontario were arrested and released pending future court dates.
