The Baie Verte Peninsula is back in Alert Level 2 after a recent COVID outbreak resulted in heightened public health measures in the region.
There is no change in the alert level in the Twillingate-New World Island area at this time. The region remains in Alert Level 3.
Newly-elected mayor of Burlington, Rudy Norman says the outbreak forced the delay of some municipal elections, including their own.
He says despite the challenges, some 70 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots.
As of this morning, according to the province’s interactive vaccination rate map, only the 69 per cent of eligible residents on the Baie Verte Peninsula are fully vaccinated—one of the lowest vaccination rates in the province. Norman says the region saw first-hand the result of low vaccination rates.
