A Corner Brook woman is set to stand trial next month on allegations that she stole more than $80,000 from the city’s minor hockey association.
47-year-old Melissa Williams originally chose to be tried in Supreme Court after pleading not guilty. But she later changed her mind and decided to be tried in provincial court instead.
Williams served as treasurer and administrator on the minor hockey board between 2017 and 2019. She was charged with a half dozen fraud offences in early 2020, including theft over $5,000, uttering forged documents and possessing or trafficking in credit card data.
The missing money led to a big debt for the minor hockey association which they’ve since managed to pay off through fundraising and help from the city.
Six days have been set aside for Williams’ trial, which is scheduled to start November 29th.
