For the second year, the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is bringing film screenings online to audiences across the province and beyond.
Interim Executive Director of the festival, Trina Ralph says this year’s lineup is an impressive one with 12 features, and 6 playlists of short films.
The Opening Night Feature, Night Blooms, by Halifax-based writer and director Stephanie Joline, shares the story of 17-year-old Carly, who dreams about escaping to a different life, while living with her deadbeat mother.
The film sparks conversation about agency and consent.
The RBC Closing Night Feature, The Meaning of Empathy, by director and writer Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, is a documentary that focuses on a Blackfoot community facing the impacts of substance abuse and a drug-poisoning epidemic.
This year the festival added a new accessibility pass that includes 70 per cent of this year’s program.
The Festival is online now, until October 17.
