More detail has been released on an incident which seriously injured a young man working on the Transocean Barents on Friday.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board is investigating after a worker got caught between a rail and a steel adapter weighing 1,400 kg during crane operations.
Workers were preparing the rig ahead of the arrival of Dorian at the time.
Work was halted and the injured worker was medevaced to the Health Science Centre where he is undergoing treatment.
Officials say the worker could have been killed in the incident.
Operations on the Transocean Barents have been suspended and will not resume until Suncor has received approved from the regulator to do so.
The worker injured in yesterday’s incident onboard the Transocean Barents is in stable condition.
Suncor Energy suspended operations on the Transocean Barents following the incident. Operations remain suspended.
