The province has released the terms of reference for the workplace review of the RNC, as announced earlier this week.
The government did so following a request from the Opposition Tories yesterday.
Justice Minister John Hogan says he had no issue with distributing the terms, a single paragraph that pledges “to review the structure and functioning of the RNC, and prepare a report outlining areas where change may be beneficial for those working with the RNC or the communities they serve.”
That includes the governance, culture, communications, conflict management and wellness supports within the RNC.
Meanwhile, Hogan confirmed that the person who will lead the review, Toronto lawyer Harriet Lewis, will likely do so from afar.
He says the plan is for Lewis not to travel to the province, given ongoing COVID safety protocols.
Instead, the work will be done online through various virtual means.
But Hogan also says if Lewis feels she needs to come here for her work, there’s money in the review budget for that.
Meanwhile, the RNC and the RNCA are welcoming the review, which is expected to take about six months.
The RNC says it will provide information to strengthen the future of the police service and support the officers and civilians they serve in the safety and health of communities in the province.
