The Association for New Canadians doesn’t believe they will have much trouble in finding housing for the 116 Afghan refugees that will now be calling the province home.
Executive director Megan Morris says the last few weeks have been hectic as the association has been working diligently to prepare for the group’s arrival. However, she says it’s nothing new to the organization as settling newcomers is something they’ve been doing for years.
Most of the people will be settled in the St. John’s-metro region, and she’s confident that housing will be found for them.
Morris says they usually receive between 300 and 400 refugees a year and they always find housing for them, however this year has been a bit more challenging.
