The province’s Justice Minister is providing some clarity around the number of RCMP officers currently serving in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Minister John Hogan was questioned about the situation in the House of Assembly last week by Helen Conway-Ottenheimer, and again on Monday by Pleaman Forsey -specifically in relation to the district of Exploits.
Hogan gave a breakdown of officers currently serving by region of the province.
He states there 420 officer positions in total: 212 positions in eastern, 149 in western, and 59 in Labrador.
As well, there are 16 positions under the First Nations Policing Program.
Numbers for specific detachments cannot be given due to safety concerns.
Hogan notes that those numbers do not include support staff or civilians.
