The province’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy officially comes into effect today.

The policy, first announced two months ago, applies to all public service employees, core government departments and agencies, and boards and commissions. As well, all new hires from this point on will be required to have both doses of the vaccine.

The policy also applies for any contractors, vendors and volunteers who are in the presence of the public service.

The province has not provided any figures as to how many employees have not complied with the new policy, however based on the province’s overall vaccination rates the numbers should be low.

It is unclear as to how the employer will deal with unvaccinated employees in the public service.
