Turkey and all the fixings, sweet treats and other snack foods can mean packing on those extra pounds over the holidays, but watching your weight doesn’t necessarily mean avoiding the treats you enjoy.
Dr. Mike Wahl, a professor at Memorial University’s division of bio-medicine, says people often mistake healthy eating with restrictions, but that goes against nature.
Evolution has designed our bodies to respond to periods of deprivation by finding ways to store fat. Wahl says it’s alright to enjoy those things you love, but if you make sure you’re still eating healthy, you won’t crave as much of the bad stuff.
