Wellwood has been with the Growlers since August, after leaving the OHL’s Flint Firebirds. He spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Oshawa Generals, one of which was their championship season.
Wellwood and Dan Watson of the Toledo Walleye were named to the team due to their teams having the highest winning percentage this year.

The two teams have some history as it was the Walleye whom the Growlers defeated for the 2019 Kelly Cup.
The All-star game is slated for January 17th, 2022.
Postponed Games
Meanwhile, the Growlers are scheduled to play a three-game series against the Trios Rivieres Lions at the Mary Brown’s Centre beginning on January 7th. However, it still remains to be seen if those games will go ahead, or if fans will be permitted in the building.
The two-game series between the two-teams that was supposed to wrap up on Thursday night were rescheduled due to League Health and Safety Protocol.
Wednesday and Thursday's games in Trois-Rivières have been postponed.
