Residents of the capital city will soon be required to use clear bags for their garbage.
Residents will be allowed one opaque, or black or green, garbage bag for privacy reasons, per week.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says clear garbage bags have been implemented in many municipalities in the country.
He detailed the reasoning behind the switch.
He says the city needs to increase their recycling numbers and divert more from the landfills.
He says clear bags allow them to do waste audits and more effectively complete that diversion.
