The town of Grand Falls-Windsor saw a financial gain as the result of a protracted labour dispute last year.
The town locked CUPE members out in mid-July after what the town called it’s final offer was rejected by the union.
A bitter 14-week labour dispute ensued—it was finally resolved in October.
The town released its financial report related to the labour dispute today.
It says the cost of unbudgeted expenses directly related to the work stoppage was $1,119,970 dollars.
The highest expense being contracted garbage collection.
Budgeted expenses that were not incurred, including wages, group insurance and pension payments not paid, totaled $1,902,970.
The town says that leaves a net surplus of $782,248 dollars.
The overall surplus for 2021, based on the revised budget at year-end, was $1,286,962 dollars.
