The RNC held a news conference this morning to update their investigation into a homicide in St. John’s west end last year.
This morning’s briefing at RNC headquarters was a follow-up to the Canada-wide warrant issued yesterday for the arrest of 26-year-old Sheldon Hibbs.
He is the suspect in the killing of 68-year-old Michael King whose body was found last May on a trail that leads from the rear of the Waterford Hospital to Topsail Road.
Hibbs is wanted for second-degree murder and is believed to now be in Alberta, specifically the Edmonton area.
Police say he fled the province shortly after the victim’s body was found and the investigation began.
But beyond that, they are revealing very little, refusing to say how King was killed, whether Hibbs was known to police, or even his hometown.
It was confirmed that Hibbs and King did have some kind of previous run-in, which police are calling an isolated incident.
Officer in Charge of Crimes Against Persons of the Criminal Investigation Division, Inspector Stephanie Lagace said the RNC is working closely with the Edmonton Police Service to track down and arrest Sheldon Hibbs.
