The provincial NDP Leader is raising issues with the province’s drug coverage plan.
Jim Dinn says people who rely on the plan are being prevented from becoming more employable, as drug coverage is cancelled if they pursue post-secondary education.
Dinn says this stems from issues he’s heard from two constituents, one who availed of a federally funded, provincially administered Skills Development Program, the other who took out a student loan.
Under the current policy, people receiving funding through Student Aid or the Federal Skills Development Program lose supports like full drug coverage.
Dinn says that is forcing people to choose between their health and their employability.
Dinn says people are trying to get off of income support and go back to school, but government’s current plan is only creating more obstacles for them.
