Much of the Avalon is preparing for another dose of messy weather over the next couple of days.
Justin Boudreau, meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says they are fairly certain this will be primarily a “snow event”, having changed somewhat from initial predictions.
He says they’re expecting between 15-35 cm of snow in total, 10-15 cm in the southwest and central, while the hardest-hit area will be the northeast Avalon, with 25-35 cm expected. That combined with some ice pellets and freezing rain in some areas will make for an unpleasant time.
With that being said, Boudreau says the projected winds have dipped quite a bit over the last couple of days. Widespread gusts of 50-70 km/h are expected but may be a bit stronger on the southern Avalon.
In the meantime, Boudreau advises the public to have their shovels ready.
He says there will be enough snow down to make for a messy morning commute. It continues to snow throughout the day, making the commute home challenging as well.
