An announcement is expected later this week on ways in which Newfoundland and Labrador can lend a hand in addressing the growing refugee crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.
Millions of Ukrainians have already fled amid Russia’s ongoing military attack against the nation. The Newfoundland and Labrador government has set up a Ukraine Family Support Desk to help families in this province who wish to bring loved ones over, but Premier Andrew Furey says more measures are coming.
“Stay tuned,” says the premier, who is expected back in the province today.
Premier Furey says a large number of calls have already been received by the help desk.
He says ordinary people are calling who want to help. Many are offering up apartments, and rooms in their homes for families displaced by the war.
