The department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture’s vet team is just back from a visit to the north coast of Labrador where they conducted rabies vaccination clinics.
Nine cases of rabies have been confirmed in foxes tested on the coast of Labrador since January.
No positive cases have been confirmed in domestic animals, however, a vet team travelled to Nain and Natuashish last week where they vaccinated 176 dogs and five cats in community vaccination clinics.
Training was also provided to local conservation officers and Mushuau Innu First Nation staff on safety protocols on dealing with rabies including the safe handling of domestic and wild animals showing signs of rabies.
FFA vets are offering rabies vaccination clinics for dogs on March 9-10 in Nain & March 12-14 in Natuashish. Our team is also providing community training in safe handling of animals, sample collection & transportation of dangerous goods. #GovNL pic.twitter.com/t5cyGhalIG
