SEA-NL is calling for the Russian Federation to be expelled from the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.
President of NAFO and Chair of the Commission, Temur Tairov, who is Russian, stepped down early last month for health reasons.
However, SEA-NL says this is not enough.
They are calling for Russia to be removed from NAFO, with all of their quotas being transferred to Ukraine.
Russian quotas in NAFO waters include thousands of tonnes of redfish, skate, turbot, cod, flounder, hake and squid.
A spokesperson for federal Fisheries and Oceans Minister, Joyce Murray, said Russia would be better in than out of NAFO, given that country would no longer be bound by any quota or enforcement measure. SEA-NL are asking government to reconsider their stance.
