The Newfoundland Growlers are off to a great start in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs, taking two big games on home ice over the weekend against the Trois-Rivières Lions.
The Growlers scored a 7-4 win on Friday and a 6-2 win Saturday to take a decisive lead in the series.
St. John’s native Tyler Boland scored two goals and added two assists in his first two professional playoff games over the weekend, in front of some of the biggest crowds seen so far this season.
He says the energy could almost be felt before they stepped onto the ice. He says it was great to win the two games in front of the hometown crowd.
The Growlers now take the series to the road as they head to Quebec for the next games in the series, the first of which is Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. NL time.
