It’s a provincial holiday today as the province marks St. George’s Day.
The holiday means that most municipal and provincial offices are closed. In St. John’s, garbage and recycling collection is going ahead, and the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility is open for commercial users only from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
St. John’s council will meet tomorrow instead of today, but the Corner Brook city council meeting is going ahead.
St. George’s Day is not a Shops Closing Day so most businesses are up and running as usual.
While no longer commonly recognized across the province, the holiday is included in many provincial and municipal collective bargaining agreements along with St. Patrick’s Day and Orangeman’s Day.
