The Association for New Canadians is highlighting some of the work produced through its mental health program, Journey of Hope.
The program gives newcomers between 15 and 35 the chance to expand their mental well-being through art.
Asta Rowe, Manager of Settlement Projects with the association says the arts-based program is like therapy, and says it’s about the processing of a newcomer’s traumas and their journey.
She says the program has real benefits for participants.
She says it helps people process their journey and reconnect with their roots using art.
The program has received $190,000 to date in funding through the RBC Foundation.
An exhibition of some of the artwork will be on display at the RBC Branch in the MUN University Centre from May 2 to the 7.
